USC Aiken Acquires Impressive Exhibition Win Over NJCAA No. 6

AIKEN, S.C. - The 17th-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken men's tennis team picked up an impressive 5-4 exhibition victory over National Junior College Athletic Association No. 6 Abraham Baldwin College this past weekend.
The victory does not count towards the Pacers overall standings, but it was impressive against a program that consistently challenges for the NJCAA crown.
The Pacers opened things off by taking two of the three doubles flights. The Pacer tandem of Juan Ponce and Gregory Andrade downed Abraham Baldwin's Rasid Winklaar and Martin Cederqvist, 8-6, to take the win at No. 1 doubles. USC Aiken's Nathan Berlyn and Nick Markiewicz earned the win at No. 2 doubles with an 8-6 victory over Abraham Baldwin's Romain Vieillard and Derrick Taylor.
USC Aiken lost the first three singles flights, but the Pacers were able to rebound to acquire the win at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles to acquire the overall 5-4 victory. All three singles wins were in straight sets.
Ben Klaas was able to down Abraham Baldwin's Carlos Perez, 7-5, 6-2, while Berlyn commandeered a 6-2, 7-5 win over Cederqvist at No. 5 singles. USC Aiken's Juan Guglielmeti bested Abraham Baldwin's Marcos Rivera, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 6 singles.
USC Aiken is currently 1-1 on the 2010 season. The Pacers opened the year with a 6-3 win over Wingate, but fell to fourth-ranked Valdosta State last Saturday.
The Pacer men and women have two matches in the upcoming week, beginning with a trip to Columbia, S.C. on Thursday, Feb. 11 to face off against in-state foe Benedict. The matches are scheduled to get underway at 12 p.m.
USC Aiken will close out the week by traveling to Gaffney, S.C. to take on Limestone at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13.
