Hailat Tabbed USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week

AIKEN, S.C. - University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer player Amr Hailat was selected as the USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week on Monday, Oct. 26.

Hailat picked up one of the top individual performances of the fall season last week when he scored all four Pacer goals in USC Aiken's 4-1 Peach Belt Conference victory over Georgia Southwestern.

He is the only person in the PBC in 2009 to acquire four goals in a single match.

Hailat (Aiken, S.C./South Aiken) kicked his incredible evening off in the 29th-minute by blasting in a loose ball off a Corey Adamson (Clearwater, Fla./Clearwater) corner kick. The goal gave the Pacers a 1-0 lead in the first half.

The Hailat tally would be all that either team would be able to acquire in the first half, but Hailat came back out in the second half ready to keep the Pacers rolling.

He scored his second of the match less than five minutes into the second stanza on a Fernando Gamez-Noriega (Sinaloa, Mexico/Colleton County) assist. Hailat was left alone in the box after being played by Gamez-Noriega. He took advantage of the situation by calmly placing the ball into the right corner of the net.

In the 57th-minute, Hailat commandeered the rare hat trick when he used another Adamson assist for his third tally of the evening. Alone in the six-yard box, Hailat drilled the ball into the back of the net for a 3-0 Pacer lead.

After Sean Howe was able to get one back for the Hurricanes, Hailat continued his onslaught and pushed past the hat trick in the 86th-minute. Hailat took a pass from Alex Lewis (Tampa, Fla./Shorecrest) that he laced into the lower left corner past Georgia Southwestern goalkeeper David Porley.

The four goals were the first of the season for the sophomore.

The USC Aiken Student Athlete of the Week award is a newly created award. Each week the USC Aiken athletic department is going to honor one individual from an in-season sport for their hard work and effort.
