Milliner and McElveen Set to Compete in 80th Annual South Carolina Amateur Championship

BLUFFTON, S.C. – University of South Carolina Aiken junior golfer Gaines Milliner and sophomore golfer Drew McElveen will compete in the South Carolina Golf Association’s 80th Annual Amateur Championship.

The 72-hole South Carolina Amateur Championship will be contested Aug. 4-7 at the Colleton Rivers Dye Golf Course.

Milliner advanced to the South Carolina Amateur Championship by qualifying at the Country Club of Lexington. Milliner carded a 3-under-par 69 to qualify.

McElveen advanced to the championship by carding a 75 at the Coosaw Creek Country Club in North Charleston, S.C.

A native of Aiken, S.C., Milliner will tee off in the first round of the 80th Annual SCGA Annual Amateur Championship at 12:50 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 4. One day later on Friday, Aug. 5, Milliner will tee off at 7:50 a.m.

McElveen will tee off shortly after Milliner on Thursday at 1:10 p.m. On Friday, the Murrells Inlet, S.C. native will tee of at 8:10 a.m.

As a sophomore in the 2010-11 season, Milliner appeared in a team-high 32 rounds. He claimed his first ever top 10 individual finish with a sixth place finish at the 2011 Peach Belt Conference Championship. On the year, he owned a team second-best 75.0 stroke average.

As a freshman in the 2010-11 season, McElveen saw limited action for the Pacers, appearing in just two rounds. McElveen finished tied for 52nd at the Kiawah Island Invitational.
