USC Aiken Ready to Play Host to Kiawah Island Invitational
KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - The University of South Carolina Aiken golf team will be playing host to the Eighth Annual Kiawah Island Invitational on Monday, Sept. 5 and Tuesday, Sept. 6.
The two-day, Eighth Annual Kiawah Island Invitational will be contested at the 6,875 yard, par 72 Cougar Point Golf Course in Kiawah Island, S.C. Designed by Gary Player, the course was rated at "4.5 stars" by Golf Digest. The South Carolina Golf Course Owners Association recently rated the Cougar Point Golf Course the “Golf Course of the Year.”
The tournament will be a two-round, 36-hole event (18 each day). Action is slated to get underway at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 5.
USC Aiken has won the event three times before (2004, 2005 and 2008). Barton claimed the Seventh Annual Kiawah Island Invitational in 2010 with a total two-round score of 582 (293-289).
The 2011 Kiawah Island Invitational will feature 17 teams in total with five Peach Belt Conference schools involved.
The USC Aiken golf team was ranked 23rd in the final Golf World/Nike Golf NCAA Division II Coaches’ Poll of the 2011 spring season.
The 2010-11 USC Aiken golf team was extremely young with no upperclassmen on the squad.
Despite their youth, the Pacers concluded the spring of 2011 by making their 19th appearance in the NCAA Division II regionals in the last 20 years.
