USC Aiken in Seventh After Day One of 2010 Springhill Suites Intercollegiate
FLORENCE, S.C. – The 23rd-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken golf team is in seventh place after the first two rounds of the 2010 Springhill Suites Intercollegiate at the 7,062-yard, par 72 Country Club of South Carolina.
The three-round, two-day tournament is being hosted by Francis Marion.
The Pacers opened the event with a total team tally of 293 in the first round before improving by three strokes in the second round (290) to finish the first two rounds of action in seventh with a cumulative team score of 583.
Freshman Kyle Godsman (Moray, Scotland/Lossiemouth) was the top Pacer on day one, ending the first two rounds tied with five others for 11th place with a two-round score of 143. Godsman carded a three-under-par 69 in round one before ending the second round with a two-over-par 74.
Fellow underclassmen Brian Amick (Sumter, S.C./Sumter) and Gaines Milliner (Aiken, S.C.) ended their efforts on day one in a tie for 21st place at 145. Both players carded identical scores in both rounds with each posting a 74 in round one and a one-under-par 71 in round two.
For the second consecutive week, Georgia College & State is in the lead in a tournament after the first day of action. GCSU (562), who were leaders after the first round of the Kiawah Island Invitational last week, enter the third round of the Springhill Suites Intercollegiate nine strokes ahead of current second-place team Chattanooga (571).
Chattanooga’s Chris Robb is the individual leader after the first two rounds. Robb fired a 66 in the first round before posting a second round score of 69. Robb’s two-round score of 135 leaves him presently three strokes ahead of five others in second place at 138.
The third and final round of the 2010 Springhill Suites Intercollegiate will be contested tomorrow (Tuesday, Sept. 14.).
