USC Aiken in a Tie for Fourth After Two Rounds of PBC Championship
PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken golf team is in a tie for fourth place after two rounds of the 19th Annual Peach Belt Conference Men’s Golf Championship at the par 72, 7,057-yard Mountain View Golf Course at Calloway Gardens. The event is part of the PBC Championship Series Presented by GEICO.
USC Aiken followed up an opening round 303 with a second round team tally of 293. The Pacers’ cumulative team score of 596 ties them with Columbus State (296-300).
USC Aiken has three players in the top 20 after the first two rounds of action.
Continuing his strong play of late, Frederik Schulte (Koln, Germany/Herzogenaurach) is leading the way for the Pacers with a total two-round score of 144 (73-71). The even par score through two rounds leaves him entering the final round of the 2010 PBC Championship in a tie for third with Georgia College & State’s Niclas Johansson (72-72).
Recently awarded 2009-10 Peach Belt Conference All-Conference golfer Kevin Grady (Woodbine, Md./Century) along with teammate Grant Carnie concluded the first two rounds in a tie for 15th with scores of 150. Grady posted a 74 in the first round that was followed up by a 76 in the second round. Carnie (Aberdeenshire, Scotland /Brevard) carded a 75 in both the first and second round on Monday.
Armstrong Atlantic State is leading the event through two rounds. The Pirates posted an aggregate team tally of 582 (293-289). Georgia College & State is in second (588), while UNC Pembroke (594) is just two strokes ahead of the Pacers and Columbus State in third place.
Armstrong Atlantic State’s Parker Gordon is the current individual leader, carding a three-under-par 141 (70-71) through the first two rounds. UNC Pembroke’s Jordan Walor is in second place currently at 142 (70-72).
The third and final round will be contested on Tuesday, Apr. 13. The winner of the PBC championship receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals.
