Carnie Tied for 18th Place at State Farm Laker Invitational
HAMPTON, Ga. - The 10th-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken golf team concluded the first round of the State Farm Laker Invitational at the par 72, 7,202-yard Crystal Lake Golf and Country Club in 15th place.
In the second annual State Farm Laker Invitational hosted by Clayton State, the inclement weather held off just enough for the teams to be able to get in one round on a day that was scheduled to feature 36 holes of action. Due to this, the event has been shortened to 36 holes with the final round slated for Tuesday, Sept. 22.
Pacer senior newcomer Grant Carnie (Aberdeenshire, Scotland/Brevard) led USC Aiken in the first round with a one-under par 71. He was the only Pacer under par in the opening round. USC Aiken's Kevin Gray (Woodbine, Md./Century) and Frederik Schulte (Koln, Germany/Herzogenaurach) were not too far behind, ending the first day in a tie for 39th with a 74 in the first round.
As a team, USC Aiken concluded the first round with a total team tally of 294.
Top-ranked Georgia College & State and second-ranked Barry are in a tie for first place entering the second round with both carding team scores of seven-under-par 281. Newberry College is in third place at four-under-par 284.
Newberry's Daniel Stanley fired a six-under-par 66 in the first round to sit in first place individually entering the second and final round. Barry's Chris Carlin is currently in second individually with a 67.
