Nelson Chosen Days Inn Downtown Aiken USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Month for January

AIKEN, S.C. – University of South Carolina Aiken men’s basketball player Re’mon Nelson has been named the Days Inn Downtown Aiken USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Month for his efforts in the month of January.

Nelson concluded USC Aiken’s nine games during the month of January averaging 12.2 points, 3.3 assists, 2.2 steals and 1.4 rebounds per game.

The Pacer point guard ended the month of January shooting 43.4 percent (33-for-76) from the field. He hit 46.2 percent (12-of-26) of his 3-point attempts during the month.

The junior from Columbus, Ohio scored in double figures in seven of the nine games. Nelson’s best game came in a 22-point effort in USC Aiken’s home win over North Georgia on Jan. 21, 2012.

Nelson is currently one of three Pacers averaging in double figures in the 2011-12 season with a team-best 11.9 points per game. Nelson in total is leading the Pacers in points (226), assists (71) and steals (45).

The Days Inn Downtown Aiken USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Month award honors one student-athlete each month from an in-season sport for their hard work and effort. Each month during the 2011-12 athletic year one winner will be chosen from an in-season sport.
