Alexander Obtains 200th Career Win

AIKEN, S.C. – University of South Carolina Aiken head men’s basketball coach Vince Alexander has turned the Pacer basketball program into a national power over the course of the last five seasons.

This past weekend during USC Aiken’s thrilling come-from-behind 67-65 win over Elizabeth City State in the Pacers’ first game of the 2011 Southeastern Tool-Don Cheeks-Dr. John Riley USC Aiken Pre-Holiday Classic, Alexander picked up his 200th career victory as a Division II head men’s basketball coach.

Alexander is now 201-152 all-time in a little over 12-plus seasons as a head coach. The seventh-year head coach is 112-78 as the head coach of the Pacer men’s basketball team. He was 89-74 in six years at Mansfield (1999-05) prior to taking the USC Aiken job.

Alexander has guided USC Aiken to historic heights during his time in charge. In 2007-08, USC Aiken reached the national rankings for the first time ever before ending the year by winning the Peach Belt Conference regular season crown. The Pacers, who won a school-record 27 games in the 2007-08 season, were the top seed in the NCAA Division II South Atlantic Regional during the 2007-08 campaign.

Alexander was chosen as the 2007-08 South Atlantic Region and the 2007-08 Peach Belt Conference Coach of the Year.

Alexander guided the 2008-09 Peach Belt Conference men’s basketball team farther than any other squad in program history, as the Pacers reached the NCAA Division II “Sweet Sixteen.” One year later in the 2009-10 season, USC Aiken claimed the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Championship.

Entering the 2011-12 holiday break, Alexander has guided USC Aiken to 97 wins and three NCAA Division II Tournament appearances since the start of the 2007-08 season.

USC Aiken commences its 2011-12 holiday break riding a seven-game winning streak under Alexander’s stewardship. The Pacers are 8-1 (2-0 PBC) overall in the 2011-12 season.

Alexander and the Pacers will next return from their holiday break for their second straight contest against Virginia Union in Richmond, Va. on Friday, Dec. 30. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
