USC Aiken Vaults Into Top Five in Latest NABC/Division II Poll

KANSAS CITY – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball team moved up to fifth in the second NABC/Division II Men's Basketball rankings of the 2010-11 regular season.

The Pacers are one of two Peach Belt Conference teams in the top ten as Montevallo made its first appearance in the top 10 this week at No. 10. In total, three Peach Belt Conference teams are ranked in the top 20 as Augusta State is 18th in the latest poll.

Cal Poly Pomona is still ranked first in the poll, while Findlay, who was ranked second and one spot ahead of Bellarmine last week, is now tied with the Knights for the No. 2 position in the poll.

Winona State is just ahead of the Pacers in the fourth spot.

USC Aiken returns to the top five in the poll for the first time since the Dec. 23, 2008 poll of the 2008-09 season. The Pacers were ranked second in the first five polls of the 2008-09 season.

The Pacers were ranked seventh in the first NABC/Division II Poll of the 2010-11 season.

Earning their first national ranking of the year at No. 20 on Dec. 4, 2007, USC Aiken has now been ranked in the top 25 in 30 of the last 44 regular season polls.

Both the USC Aiken men and women open Peach Belt Conference action on Wednesday, Dec. 1 against Francis Marion at the Convocation Center.

The USC Aiken women (6-2, 0-0 PBC) will get things underway at 5:30 p.m. against the 25th-ranked Francis Marion women (3-0, 0-0 PBC). Immediately following the conclusion of the women's game, the fifth-ranked Pacer men (4-0, 0-0 PBC) and the Patriot men (5-1, 0-0 PBC) will hit the hardwood against one another at approximately 7:30 p.m.

The USC Aiken-Francis Marion doubleheader is part of the USC Aiken Holiday Fest. The Holiday's and Hoops event will feature special things inside and outside of the Convocation Center for the entire family. Pacer Fans can come check out how different Holidays are celebrated, eat some food and make some crafts, take your picture with Santa as well as enjoy the Men's & Women's Basketball Game afterwards.

The twinbill is also Concept H.R. Night at the Convocation Center. The USC Aiken athletic department will utilize the night to thank USC Aiken's official athletic website provider for all they do for the USC Aiken athletic department.

The doubleheader is also USC Aiken's annual Ovarian Cancer Awareness night.

Coca-Cola is also sponsoring a special residential face-off where the winning hall or building on the USC Aiken campus will obtain a special pizza party during halftime of the men's game that evening.

The USC Aiken athletic department will honor its fall student-athletes as well during the doubleheader.
