Brown Named Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week

AUGUSTA, Ga. - University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball player Alvin Brown was selected by the league office as the Peach Belt Conference men's basketball Player of the Week on Monday, Jan. 24.

Brown came close to averaging a triple-double for the week in USC Aiken's two outings last week. Brown finished USC Aiken's two victories averaging 12 points, nine blocks and eight rebounds per game. He was a lethal 64.3 percent (9-for-14) from the floor and shot 75 percent from the charity stripe where he was 6-for-8.

Brown is currently leading the Peach Belt Conference in blocks (52). He is third in the league in field goal percentage (62.2 percent).

In USC Aiken's 76-71 win over North Georgia at the Convocation Center on Monday, Jan. 17, Brown treated all the Pacer fans in attendance to a record-breaking performance.

Brown broke the Peach Belt Conference record for blocked shots in a single game and finished with the third triple-double in school history in USC Aiken's win over North Georgia.

Brown (Fort Washington, Md./James Madison) finished his incredible night with 13 blocks, 13 points and 10 rebounds. His 13 blocks eclipsed the previous USC Aiken and Peach Belt Conference record of 12 blocks in a game that was formerly held by USC Aiken Hall of Famer Derek Moore, who swatted 12 shots in a contest with Coastal Carolina on Dec. 5, 1998.

Brown's triple-double marked the first time that a Pacer had secured a triple-double in a single game since Moore acquired 16 points, 12 blocks and 11 rebounds in the Coastal Carolina game. Moore had two triple-doubles in his career as he also concluded a game with Augusta State on Feb. 17, 1996 with 22 points, 11 rebounds and 10 blocks.

The triple-double Brown ended Monday's victory with marked the first time that a Peach Belt Conference player had finished with a triple-double since Aaron Clark of Georgia College had 19 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in a contest against Columbus State on Feb. 7, 2007.

The four triple-doubles, including Brown's, are the only four known in league history.

USC Aiken in total ended its victory over North Georgia with 14 blocks as a team as Michael Technow (Boca Raton, Fla./American) also added a block of his own. The 14 blocks as a team in the game tied the Peach Belt Conference record for total blocks in a contest. Columbus State also picked up 14 blocks as a team in a game with UNC Pembroke on Jan. 16, 2010.

Brown followed up his performance in the North Georgia game by finishing with 11 points, six rebounds and five blocks in USC Aiken's 67-62 road win over Lander on Saturday, Jan. 22.

Brown was a part of six of USC Aiken's final seven points in the contest. The Pacers down by one at 61-60 with 2:25 remaining in the game, Brown hit back-to-back jumpers over the next 30 seconds to place the Pacers ahead by two at 64-62. Brown then found Technow a minute later for an easy lay-up that gave USC Aiken a four-point advantage at 66-62 with under a minute left. Sterling Council (Camden, S.C./Camden) added a free throw with 14 seconds left to leave the Pacers with the five-point victory.
