AIKEN, S.C. - University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball player Re’mon Nelson was chosen as the USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week on March 15, 2010.
A freshman point guard from Canal Winchester, Ohio, Nelson concluded his first NCAA Tournament for the Pacers this past weekend averaging 15 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game.
Nelson on the week shot 40.7 percent (11-for-27) from the field.
In USC Aiken’s NCAA Division II Southeast Regional victory over Georgia College & State on Saturday, March 13, Nelson finished with eight points, six rebounds and five assists.
Nelson almost single-handedly kept the Pacers in the game in the second half in USC Aiken’s NCAA Division II Southeast Regional semifinal loss to Montevallo.
Nelson scored 16 of USC Aiken’s first 20 points in the second half to pull the Pacers back to within one point with just over eight minutes left. The Pacers would not be able to overtake the Falcons, but Nelson’s efforts throughout the half led to him finishing with a career-high tying 22 points.
In addition to the career-high tying 22 points, Nelson also had five rebounds, three assists and a steal in the Montevallo game. He hit 47.1 percent (8-for-17) of his field goal attempts in the contest. He also knocked down five three-pointers in the game.
