AIKEN, S.C. – Preparing to enter his 13th season at the helm of Pacer baseball, University of South Carolina Aiken head baseball coach Kenny Thomas released USC Aiken’s 2012 schedule on Sunday, Aug. 21, 2011.
"The schedule from top to bottom is extremely tough, with the addition of two PBC weekends this year and the quality of the non-conference schedule; it makes for a very challenging schedule,” noted Thomas. “I like challenges!"
USC Aiken’s 2012 schedule will commence with 13 straight home games at the ‘Bert as the Pacers will play all their games in February at home.
For the eighth straight year, USC Aiken will play its first three-game series of the year against Lincoln Memorial. The familiar foes will open their 2012 seasons with a 4 p.m. contest on Friday, Feb. 3. The three-game series between the Pacers and Railsplitters will end with single 1 p.m. games on Saturday, Feb. 4 and Sunday, Feb. 5. USC Aiken owns a 22-13 all-time series advantage over Lincoln Memorial.
The next weekend, USC Aiken will play host to the inaugural USCA Classic at Roberto Hernandez Stadium. USC Aiken will commence its action in the USCA Classic with its first game against Davis & Elkins since 1993 at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 10. One day later at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11, USC Aiken will tangle with Carson-Newman for the first time since 2008. On Sunday, Feb. 12 at 3 p.m., USC Aiken will close the event with a non-conference game against Peach Belt Conference foe North Georgia.
"The USCA Classic is something new for 2012 that I think the fans and players will like,” remarked Thomas. “The format allows us to play three different teams in three days and allows our true baseball fans to see a variety of teams. It will be a tough weekend and in only the second weekend of the season."
The next weekend, USC Aiken begins Peach Belt Conference action with a doubleheader against Montevallo at the ‘Bert on Saturday, Feb. 18. First pitch in game one is scheduled for 1 p.m. with the second game to follow shortly after the conclusion of game one. On Sunday, Feb. 19, USC Aiken and Montevallo will close out their league three-game set with a 1 p.m. contest.
USC Aiken and Georgia College will tangle the next weekend in a three-game series at Roberto Hernandez Stadium. The Peach Belt Conference series will commence with a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 25. The first game of the doubleheader is slated to begin at 2 p.m. The three-game league series will close with a 1 p.m. game on Sunday, Feb. 26.
The first month of the regular season will conclude for USC Aiken on Wednesday, Feb. 29 with a 4 p.m. contest against Palmetto State rival Benedict. USC Aiken is 6-0 all-time against Benedict.
The month of March begins for USC Aiken with the Pacers traveling to rival Augusta State for a Peach Belt Conference series in Augusta, Ga. on Saturday, March 3 and Sunday, March 4. The three-game Peach Belt Conference series opens with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 3 that begins at 1 p.m. The series will close with a single 1 p.m. game on Sunday, March 4. USC Aiken owns a 60-19 all-time series lead over Augusta State.
Two days later, USC Aiken will play host to Chowan for a two-game midweek series at the ‘Bert. USC Aiken and Chowan will play single 6 p.m. games on Tuesday, March 6 and Wednesday, March 7. USC Aiken is 11-0 all-time against Chowan.
Later that week, USC Aiken hits the road for a Peach Belt Conference road series against Columbus State in Columbus, Ga. The three-game league set is slated to commence with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 10. The first game in the doubleheader is scheduled to get underway at 1 p.m. The three-game set will close with a 1 p.m. game on Sunday, March 11.
The Pacers will play host to three games over the course of the next week, beginning with a 6 p.m. contest against Conference Carolinas foe Limestone on Wednesday, March 14. The two programs have not played since 2007, but USC Aiken owns a 12-4 all-time series lead.
Georgia Southwestern will visit Roberto Hernandez Stadium next with the Pacers and Hurricanes playing a three-game Peach Belt Conference series on Friday, March 16 and Saturday, March 17. The series will begin with a 6 p.m. game on Friday, March 16. One day later, the league series will finish with a doubleheader at the ‘Bert on Saturday, March 17. First pitch in the twinbill is scheduled to be thrown at 1 p.m.
USC Aiken welcomes Anderson to the ‘Bert two days later. The Pacers and Trojans will play a 6 p.m. game on Tuesday, March 20. One day later, USC Aiken hits the road for a non-conference road game against Newberry in Newberry, S.C. on Wednesday, March 21. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Lander visits USC Aiken to close the week for a three-game home league series, beginning with a 6 p.m. game on Friday, March 23. One day later, the three-game league set will close with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 24. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
USC Aiken will next play the first game of the Fourth Annual Outback Cup. The annual non-conference two-game series between USC Aiken and Augusta State begins with a 6:30 p.m. game on Wednesday, March 28 in Augusta, Ga. USC Aiken has never lost an Outback Cup game as they are currently 6-0 all-time against the Jaguars in the non-conference series.
USC Aiken will close the month of March and open the month of April with a road Peach Belt Conference series against Flagler in St. Augustine, Fla. On Saturday, March 31 and Sunday, April 1. The series begins with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, March 31. On Sunday, April 1, the series will close with a 1 p.m. contest.
USC Aiken’s first home game in April will see the Wolves of Newberry visit the ‘Bert. USC Aiken and Newberry will play their second game of the 2012 season at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4. USC Aiken owns a 30-11 all-time series lead over Newberry.
After the Newberry game, USC Aiken hit the road for a season-long four-game road swing that begins with a three-game series against Armstrong Atlantic State in Savannah, Ga.. The three-game league set commences with a 2 p.m. game on Friday, April 6. The series will conclude with a doubleheader on Sunday, April 7. The twinbill begins at 12:30 p.m.
After the series against the Pirates, USC Aiken will travel to Salisbury, N.C. for a 6 p.m. contest against South Atlantic Conference foe Catawba. It is the first of three games between the teams in 2012.
UNC Pembroke will visit the ‘Bert later that week for a three-game Peach Belt Conference series. The three-game conference series will begin with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, April 14. The league three-game set concludes with a 1 p.m. game on Sunday, April 15.
Two days later, USC Aiken welcomes CSRA rival Paine to Roberto Hernandez Stadium for the first time. The first game between the two teams at the ‘Bert is set for 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17.
USC Aiken and Augusta State will play the second game of the Outback Cup one day later at Roberto Hernandez Stadium. First pitch in the game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18.
The Pacers will end the week by playing their final league and road three-game series of the 2012 regular season against Francis Marion in Florence, S.C. on Saturday, April 21 and Sunday, April 22. The series will begin with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 21. First pitch in game one of the twinbill is scheduled for 2 p.m. The series will close with a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday, April 22.
USC Aiken will close out the 2012 regular season with three games at the ‘Bert. Catawba will help the Pacers close out the month of April with the two teams playing a two-game set at Roberto Hernandez Stadium on Friday, April 27 and Saturday, April 28. The first game in the two-game series is slated for 7 p.m. on Friday, April 27. The Pacers and Indians will conclude their series with a 2 p.m. game on Saturday, April 28. Saturday’s game against Catawba will serve as Senior Day for the Pacers.
For the second straight year, USC Aiken will close out its regular season at home against the Flying Fleet of Erskine. First pitch in USC Aiken’s regular season finale with Erskine on Wednesday, May 2 is scheduled for 7 p.m.
