Pacers Move Up Five Spots to 12th

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team moved up five spots to 12th in the latest Collegiate Baseball Newspaper NCAA Division II Poll.

USC Aiken is tied with St. Cloud State for 12th currently. It marks the 12th time in the 2012 season that USC Aiken has been ranked in the top-30.

Seven weeks ago, USC Aiken checked in at No. 14. The Pacers moved into the top-10 for the first time in the 2012 season six weeks ago at No. 10. Five weeks ago, USC Aiken ascended to the top-5 in the nation for the first time at No. 4. Four weeks ago, USC Aiken was ranked third.

Three weeks ago, USC Aiken checked in at 11th. The Pacers were ranked 14th two weeks ago. Last week, USC Aiken was tabbed 17th.

USC Aiken is one of five Peach Belt Conference teams ranked in the top-30. Francis Marion is presently the highest ranked PBC squad at No. 6. PBC regular season champion Armstrong is just behind in ninth. Georgia College moved back into the rankings at No. 25, while Lander is currently 30th.

Mount Olive is still the nation's top-ranked team.

The Pacers picked up two impressive wins over then 14th-ranked and currently 19th-ranked Catawba last week at Roberto Hernandez Stadium. USC Aiken claimed a 9-5 win in the first game on Friday, April 27. One day later, USC Aiken acquired a 6-5 victory.

USC Aiken head baseball coach Kenny Thomas announced the addition of Winston-Salem State to the Pacer baseball schedule on Monday.

USC Aiken will now close out its 2012 regular season with a 7 p.m. game against the Winston-Salem State Rams on Friday, May 4.

Winston-Salem State comes to Aiken with a 34-17 overall record. The Rams will play in the NCAA Division II Tournament after earning their second consecutive CIAA Tournament Championship earlier this month.

USC Aiken welcomes Winston-Salem State owning a 33-16 overall record.

Winners of their last three, USC Aiken after facing the Rams will participate in the 2012 Peach Belt Conference Baseball Tournament, which will be contested May 9-13 at Golden Park in Columbus, Ga. Seeding for the 2012 Peach Belt Conference Baseball Tournament will be announced after the conclusion of the Peach Belt Conference regular season on Monday, April 30.
