Pacers 14th in Latest National Poll

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team is ranked 14th in the latest Collegiate Baseball Newspaper NCAA Division II Poll.

It marks the 10th time in the 2012 season that USC Aiken has been ranked in the top-30.

Five weeks ago, USC Aiken also checked in at No. 14. The Pacers moved into the top-10 for the first time in the 2012 season four weeks ago at No. 10. Three weeks ago, USC Aiken ascended to the top-5 in the nation for the first time at No. 4. Two weeks ago, USC Aiken was ranked third.

USC Aiken is one of four Peach Belt Conference schools ranked in the latest top-30. Armstrong is the highest-ranked PBC school at No. 5. USC Aiken’s next conference opponent, Francis Marion, is ranked eighth.

UNC Pembroke is the final PBC team ranked. The Braves are 25th in this week’s national tally.

Tampa is currently the nation’s top-ranked team.

USC Aiken closed out last week by taking two of three from Peach Belt Conference East Division foe and then national No. 24 UNC Pembroke.

USC Aiken (28-14, 17-10 PBC) opens the upcoming week by welcoming two CSRA rivals to Roberto Hernandez Stadium. The Pacers will first square off with Paine at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17. One day later, USC Aiken and Augusta State will close out the 2012 Outback Cup with a 6:30 p.m. game on Wednesday, April 18.

USC Aiken will then conclude its Peach Belt Conference regular-season campaign with a three-game national top-15 showdown series against national No. 8 Francis Marion in Florence, S.C. on Saturday, April 21 and Sunday, April 22.

The Peach Belt Conference series will open with a doubleheader on Saturday. The first game of the doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.

The three-game league set will then close with a single 1 p.m. game on Sunday.
