AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team moved into the top-10 for the first time this season at No. 10 in the latest Collegiate Baseball Newspaper NCAA Division II Poll.
It marks the sixth time in the 2012 season that USC Aiken has been ranked in the top-30. The Pacers were ranked 28th in the Feb. 7 poll. Four weeks ago, USC Aiken checked in at No. 29. USC Aiken was No. 22 three weeks ago. Two weeks ago, USC Aiken was tied for 17th.
Last week, USC Aiken checked in at No. 14.
USC Aiken is one of five Peach Belt Conference schools ranked in the latest top-30. Lander is the highest ranked team at No. 2. Armstrong is ranked 20th followed by Francis Marion (23rd) and Columbus State (24th).
Central Missouri is presently the nation’s top-ranked team, while North Alabama is in third right behind Lander.
USC Aiken outscored its opposition 30-5 in a perfect 4-0 week last week. The Pacers picked up two shutouts last week.
USC Aiken (19-6, 10-5 PBC) has five games in the upcoming week, beginning with a home contest against Anderson at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 20.
One day later, USC Aiken will hit the road to face off against Newberry at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Mar. 21.
The Pacers will close out the week with a home Peach Belt Conference East Division top-10 showdown with current first-place team Lander.
The three-game league set at Roberto Hernandez Stadium will begin with a 6 p.m. game on Friday, Mar. 23. One day later, the two teams will close their three-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday, Mar. 24. The first game of the doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
