AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team is ranked 29th in the latest Collegiate Baseball Newspaper NCAA Division II Poll.
It marks the second time in the young 2012 season that USC Aiken has been ranked in the top-30. The Pacers were ranked 28th in the Feb. 7 poll.
USC Aiken is one of six Peach Belt Conference teams ranked in the latest national poll. Columbus State is the highest ranked PBC school at No. 4. Also in the latest national poll from the PBC are UNC Pembroke (ninth), Francis Marion (12th), Armstrong (17th) and North Georgia (26th).
Defending national champion West Florida is currently ranked first in the national poll. Tampa is second followed by Central Missouri at No. 3.
USC Aiken claimed its second consecutive series victory by taking two of three this past weekend from Montevallo.
The Peach Belt Conference series opener for the Pacers saw USC Aiken (7-2, 2-1 PBC) earn a 4-2 win in the first game of the three-game set. The Pacers picked up a 12-3 victory in game two before falling 9-7 in the series finale.
USC Aiken will next continue Peach Belt Conference play with a three-game home league set with Georgia College. The league three-game series will begin with a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 25.
The first game of the twinbill is slated to commence at 2 p.m. The three-game PBC series will close with a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday, Feb. 26.
