Peed Named Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Week
AUGUSTA, Ga. – University of South Carolina Aiken freshman pitcher Taylor Peed was chosen by the league office as the Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Week on Tuesday, May 3.
Peed is the third USC Aiken player to claim the award in 2011 as Spencer Wolfe (Feb. 15) and Derek Beasley (Apr. 11) also acquired the award this season.
In USC Aiken's 5-0 win over Young Harris on Apr. 25, Peed pitched the first seven innings. He struck out three and allowed the Mountain Lions to scatter six hits. He walked two.
Young Harris hit just .240 against him in the contest. No baserunner reached third base while he was on the mound.
A native of St. Leonard, Md., Peed concluded his freshman campaign with a record of 2-0. The Calvert High School product had an ERA of 3.20 in 25.1 innings pitched. He made 12 appearances in total, starting four games.
