Three Pacers Named to Peach Belt Conference All-Academic Team
2011 Peach Belt Conference All-Academic Baseball Team
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Three University of South Carolina Aiken baseball student-athletes were chosen to the 2011 Peach Belt Conference All-Academic baseball team.
The PBC All-Academic baseball team was released from the league office on Friday, May 20, 2011.
Senior Jason Cochcroft was chosen for the second time in his career, while Thomas McLeod and Tripp Warrick were tabbed to the PBC All-Academic team for the first time.
A native of Gilbert, S.C., Cochcroft concluded his Pacer career with a 20-5 all-time record. Cochcroft was 4-1 in 14 appearances in the 2011 season. The right-handed pitcher also had two saves in Peach Belt Conference action.
Cochcroft struck out 47 batters in the 2011 season in 68 innings pitched. His opposition hit just .257 against him.
In the classroom, the 2011 USC Aiken athletic department Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year owns a 3.36 GPA as a Business Administration major.
A lefty out of Chapin, S.C., McLeod led the Pacers in the 2011 season with a 9-5 record. The junior held his opponents to a .240 batting average in 80 innings on the hill.
McLeod in 15 appearances, including 14 starts, dealt a team-best 72 strikeouts. He pitched two complete games. He fanned a career-best 10 batters in a complete game win over then No. 7 UNC Pembroke on Mar. 19, 2011.
In the classroom, McLeod boasts a 3.68 GPA as an Exercise and Sports Science major.
A native of North Augusta, S.C., Warrick has now claimed two postseason academic awards as he was also named to the Capital One College Division Academic All-District Three Second Team on Thursday, May 5.
Warrick concluded his sophomore campaign hitting a team third-best .328 (20-for-61). Warrick played in 31 games for the Pacers in 2011, starting 15. He started contests for the Pacers this past season at both designated hitter and first base.
Warrick finished his year with 10 RBIs and eight runs scored. He snagged 24 total bases. The North Augusta High School product claimed one home run and one double. He had a team second-best .447 on-base percentage.
Warrick owns a 4.00 GPA as a Chemistry major.
A native of West Boylston, Mass., Pacer sophomore Ryan Milewski was chosen to the Peach Belt Conference All-Academic Honorable Mention team.
The Peach Belt Conference All-Academic baseball team is part of a season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution.
The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee and select the teams.
Founded in 1991, the Peach Belt Conference is home to 26 NCAA Division II National Championships. The Peach Belt Conference features 13 member institutions in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Alabama compete in 13 championship sports. The 2009-10 members of the PBC are Augusta State University, Armstrong Atlantic State University, Clayton State University, Columbus State University, Flagler College, Francis Marion University, Georgia College & State University, Georgia Southwestern State University, Lander University, University of Montevallo, North Georgia College & State University, University of North Carolina at Pembroke and the University of South Carolina Aiken.
