Carmon and Miller Tabbed to National CPL All-Star Team
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – University of South Carolina Aiken baseball standouts Stephen Carmon and Josh Miller have been selected to the 2011 Coastal Plain League’s National CPL All-Star Team.
The league made the official announcement on Tuesday, July 12, 2011.
The duo joins Pacer teammate Stephen Bellantoni as All-Stars in their respective leagues. Bellantoni was named to the Florida Collegiate Summer League All-Star Team late last week.
Carmon will be playing in the Coastal Plains League All-Star game for the second consecutive season.
A member of the Thomasville HiToms, Carmon, who was named to the All-Star team as a shortstop, is hitting .273 (41-for-150) for Thomasville in 38 games. He is the only player on the team to play in and start all 38 games for the HiToms.
Carmon has scored a league-high 33 runs to go along with a team second-best 17 RBIs. He has snagged a team-best 53 total bases. His 150 at-bats and 174 plate appearances also leads the CPL.
A native of Camden, S.C., Carmon finished his 2011 season for the Pacers in the top 10 in the Peach Belt Conference in 13 different offensive categories. He was also second in the league in assists with 162.
Carmon started all 50 games for USC Aiken at shortstop in 2011. He concluded his junior campaign hitting .373 (72-for-193) with 46 runs scored and 26 RBIs. He finished his season with 28 extra-base hits on 17 doubles, seven triples and four home runs.
A member of the Florence RedWolves, Miller was chosen to the All-Star team as a catcher.
Miller is currently hitting .240 (23-for-96) for the RedWolves in 29 games. He has started 23 games for Florence this summer.
The Chapin, S.C. native has scored 15 runs to go along with nine RBIs. In the field, he has 116 putouts.
Miller is tied for third in the CPL in sacrifice bunts with six.
Miller finished his sophomore campaign in 2011 for USC Aiken hitting .357 (65-for-182) in 46 games. He started all 46 games in which he appeared.
Miller obtained 39 RBIs this past season for the Pacers, while also scoring 27 runs. He closed the year with a team-high 282 putouts.
The 13th Annual Coastal Plain League All-Star Game will be played on Monday, July 18 at J.P. Riddle Stadium in Fayetteville, N.C. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m.
The National All-Star Team features players from 10 CPL clubs with the players being selected by head coaches and media representatives from all clubs.
