Carmon Chosen Days Inn Downtown Aiken USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Month for April

AIKEN, S.C. – University of South Carolina Aiken baseball player Stephen Carmon has been named the Days Inn Downtown Aiken USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Month for the month of April.

Carmon started all 19 games for the Pacers in the month of April at shortstop. He finished the final month of the 2011 season for the Pacers hitting .394 (28-for-71) with 21 runs scored and 10 RBIs.

The Camden, S.C. native snagged 50 total bases on the month. He claimed 12 stolen bases in the month of April. Carmon owned a slugging percentage of .704 and an on-base percentage of .506.

The 2011 Tim Stokes Memorial Most Valuable Player for USC Aiken baseball, Carmon acquired 13 extra-base knocks on the month on seven doubles, three triples and three home runs.

Carmon had nine games with multiple hits in April.

His best week in April came in a week that featured five games for the Pacers from Apr. 12-Apr. 16.

In USC Aiken’s five games that week, Carmon hit a team-best .714 (10-for-14). The junior owned an on-base percentage of .818 and a slugging percentage of 1.214.

Carmon was lethal in USC Aiken’s series win over PBC rival and then nationally 20th-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State on Apr. 15 and Apr. 16, going 9-for-11 from the plate for a .818 batting average. In the series win, Carmon owned an on-base percentage of .857 and a slugging percentage of 1.455.

In total in the 2011 season, Carmon hit a team-best .373 (72-for-193). He ended the year leading the Pacers in hits, doubles, triples, total bases, slugging percentage, on-base percentage and stolen bases. He also tied for the team lead in home runs.

The Days Inn Downtown Aiken USC Aiken Athletic Department Student Athlete of the Month award honors one student-athlete each month from an in-season sport for their hard work and effort.
