Beasley Chosen Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Week
AUGUSTA, Ga. – University of South Carolina Aiken freshman pitcher Derek Beasley was chosen by the league office as the Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Week on Monday, April 11, 2011.
Beasley helped clinch USC Aiken’s series victory over Augusta State by pitching seven shutout innings in the Pacers’ 4-0 victory over the Jaguars on Sunday, April 10.
In the game, Beasley struck out five and allowed just three walks. He gave up only five hits.
After setting down the side in both the fourth and fifth innings, Beasley pitched himself out of a jam in the sixth with a strikeout to end a threat that saw the Jaguars have runners on second and third with two outs.
In the seventh, Beasley squelched an Augusta State threat with two outs and runners on second and third once again by picking up another strikeout before ending the Jaguar threat with a flyout to left field.
The Harlem, Ga. native is now 4-3 on the 2011 season.
Beasley and the Pacers will next play host to St. Andrews at Roberto Hernandez Stadium on Tuesday, April 12. The game is scheduled to commence at 6:30 p.m.
