USCA DROPS PAIR OF PEACH BELT MATCHES AT CSU
SENIOR KRISTIN HUNTER POSTS LADY PACERS' LONE WIN OVER RANKED FOE

COLUMBUS, Ga. -- In matches against a pair of ranked Columbus State tennis squads on Friday, USC Aiken’s men fell in a close match while the Lady Pacers took just one match from the Lady Cougars. In the men’s match, #20 USC Aiken (6-5, 2-3 PBC) lost to #27 Columbus State (9-5, 4-2 PBC) 5-4 and on the women’s side, #12 Columbus State (10-4, 4-3 PBC) defeated #35 USCA (6-6, 3-4 PBC) 8-1. In the men’s match, the Cougars upset ranked USC Aiken opponents in two key matches to propel them to victory. At #2 doubles, #21 Bruno Seves and Chris Kaetz fell to unranked Guillermo Echevarria and Paul van Rensburg 8-6. It was the first loss of the season for the USCA pair, now 10-1. At #1 singles, USC Aiken’s Dagoberto Darezzo, ranked 19th nationally, fell to unranked Frank Suarez 6-1, 4-6, 6-2.

Darezzo teamed with Edward Horne to get the Pacers lone win in doubles play. The second-ranked team in the country defeated Luis Gonzalez and Hernando Ortiz 8-6. The Pacers also dropped two other three-set matches after winning the first set in both. At #4 singles where Juan Manuel Guglielmeti fell to van Rensburg 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. At #6 singles, Diego Duran lost to Ortiz 4-6, 6-4, 7-5. Seves, Horne, and Kaetz each won their singles matches in straight sets.

Senior Kristin Hunter was the lone bright spot for the women, defeating #30 Agata Polcyn convincingly, 6-2, 6-4. None of the other five singles matches, all Columbus State victories, reached a third set. Hunter is now 8-4 on the season, including 4-3 in Peach Belt play.

Both USC Aiken teams will play at Augusta State on Tuesday and look to even their conference records. The match is slated to start at 3:00 PM.
