USCA TENNIS DOWNS RANKED LIMESTONE SQUADS
MEN TAKE CARE OF #33 SAINTS; LADY PACERS UPSET #36 WOMEN

GAFFNEY, S.C. -- Facing a pair of ranked Limestone squads Friday afternoon, the USC Aiken men’s and women’s tennis earned a sweep in non-conference action. The 18th-ranked Pacers (3-2) defeated #33 Limestone 6-3 in men’s action while the Lady Pacers (2-2) upset the 36th-ranked Saints 5-4. (PHOTO BY: Scott Webster)

On the men’s side, the Pacers’ nationally-ranked doubles squads gave the visitors an early 2-1 lead heading into singles’ play. Second-ranked Dagoberto Darezzo and Edward Horne took out Christian Munn and Daniel O’Brien 8-4 at #1 doubles.

At #2 doubles, #21 Bruno Seves and Chris Kaetz downed Mattieu Bosquet and Alex Fager 8-3. Limestone’s Phillipe Hogan and Christian Warnholtz defeated Diego Duran and Nathan Berlyn 8-5.

Darezzo, ranked 19th nationally in singles, took out Thomas Olivier 7-5, 6-3 at #1 singles. #31 Seves breezed past his opponent at #2 singles, posting a 6-1, 6-0 win over Bosquet. Limestone won a pair of three-set matches at #3 and #4 singles, but the Pacers rallied to take both #5 and #6. At #5 singles, Kaetz defeated Warnholtz easily, 6-2, 6-0. Berlyn posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over Fager at #6.

In women’s action, USC Aiken picked up a pair of wins in doubles before splitting the six singles matches. Kristin Hunter teamed with Brittany Telford to defeat Jen Snaider and Alexandra Gade 8-6 at #1 doubles. The #2 doubles team of Mathilde Grenet and Maria Soledad Angel defeated Eve Aubry and Josephine Gade 8-6.

The most important singles match of the day and the only three-setter was at #2 singles. Grenet, a sophomore, rallied after dropping the first set 6-2 against Alexandra Gade to take the next two sets 6-2, 6-2.

Hunter defeated Snaider 6-3, 6-0 at #1 singles, and Blattes downed Josephine Gade 6-1, 6-2 at #4 singles in the Lady Pacers other two wins. Sophomore Brittany Telford was leading Jessie Griffin 6-4, 2-3 before retiring.

Both teams will be in action at home on Sunday, hosting Lander in a Peach Belt Conference match at 12:00 PM.
