AIKEN, S.C.--USC Aiken’s men’s tennis team participated this past weekend in the Fifth Annual Alltel Men’s Fall Tennis Championships at Georgia College and State University (GC&SU) in Milledgeville, Ga. The Pacers were unable to claim any championships over the three-day tournament.

The event was divided into two sets of flights A, B and C for singles and one set of flights A and B for doubles. The winners of each flight moved into the second and/or third round of play on Saturday. The finalists played on Sunday for the championships.

Sophomore John Percival was the only USC Aiken singles player to advance out of his first flight and play in Saturday’s quarterfinal round. He defeated Joey Lenardo (PC) 6-2;6-0 on Friday and Pedro Bruno (ABAC) 6-2;6-3 on Saturday. He advanced again but lost to Mike Vandenabeele (ASU) 6-1;6-0 in the semifinal round.

The Pacers won both doubles matches in Friday’s first round of play. Seniors Fernando Guevara and Carlos Huerta defeated Tom Corrie and Jayraj Jadeja (ABAC) 8-2. Senior Nicolas Lombardo and newcomer Renan Constantino defeated Matt Nash and Valentin Siqartau (PC) 8-4. All three competitng doubles teams lost in Saturdays quarterfinal round.

The Pacers travel to Savannah, Ga., on Sept. 29, to compete in the Omni Regional, hosted by Armstrong Atlantic University.
