MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.--USC Aiken’s men’s tennis team opened its fall season with a strong performance at the Fourth Annual Alltel Men’s Fall Tennis Championships, hosted by Georgia College & State University (GC&SU) on Friday and Saturday in Milledgeville, Ga. The Pacers claimed five of the seven singles championships and claimed two doubles championships.

The event was divided into seven singles groups and three doubles groups. Each individual and doubles team played everyone in their group and the individual or team with the most wins was declared the group champion.

Pierre Negri claimed the group two singles championships after going 3-0. Carlos Huerta and GC&SU’s Marcelo Ferreira and Mariano Cebrian tied for the group three singles championship after posting 2-1 records. Freshman Jeff West went undefeated (3-0) to claim the group five singles championship. Bogdan Diaconescu’s perfect 3-0 record claimed the group six championship. Freshman John Percival followed suit in group seven, going 3-0 to claim that championship.

No champion was declared in group two doubles but USC Aiken took home the championships in group one and three. The duo of Nicolas Lombardo and Huerta claimed the prize in group one. The freshmen tandem of West and Percival won the group three title.

The Pacers return to action on Oct. 1, when they travel to Wilson, N.C., to participate in the Omni Regionals, hosted by Barton College.
