AIKEN, GA--USC Aiken’s men’s
tennis team is ranked tied for 10th in the Preseason Intercollegiate
Tennis Association (ITA) Mid-Atlantic Regional Rankings, the Peach Belt
Conference office announced today. The Pacers are among eight Peach Belt
teams in the top 10 and are tied with Francis Marion. USCA Sophomore
Harshit Sharma, a native of Kolkatta, India, is ranked as the 13th best
player in the preseason region individual rankings.
The Pacers will open their 2004 season on February 1, when Armstrong Atlantic
State University pays a visit to Aiken, S.C. The match is set to begin at 1:00
p.m. The Pirates are ranked 11th in the country in the ITA’s Preseason
National Top 40.
The University of North Florida is the number one team in the preseason regional
rankings. The Ospreys are also sitting number four in the preseason national
rankings. Lander, USC Spartanburg, Armstrong Atlantic State and Lees McRae round
out the top five in the region. Anderson, Columbus State, Barton and Georgia
College & State University are holding down spots six through nine and were
followed by FMU and the Pacers.
Lander and USC Spartanburg joined North Florida among the top10 teams in the
country. The Bearcats are eighth with the Rifles one spot behind in ninth. Armstrong
Atlantic sits right outside the top 10 at number 11 and Columbus State is ranked
22nd.
Rob Steckly of Lander was chosen as the preseason top singles player in the nation.
