AIKEN, S.C.--Chad Sanders’ goal in
the 25th minute proved to be the only separation between USC Aiken (1-2-1)
and Barton College (1-1-0) on Saturday night with the Bulldogs claiming
the 1-0 victory over the Pacers in men’s non-conference soccer
action. The match marked the first meeting in a decade between the two
programs.
Sanders’ (1) goal was a rebound put back that had come to him after deflecting
off the left post. Other than the one fortunate break, all three goalkeepers
played nearly flawless in net. Harold Tate stopped five shots in goal for the
Pacers while Michael Anderson and Matt Coble combined for six saves and the shutout
for the Bulldogs.
Barton had another potential goal negated in the second half on an offsides call.
The Pacers best scoring chances came inside of 10 minutes to play, but Coble
held USCA off the board.
Shots were even (14-14) as were corner kicks (4-4). Barton was whistled for 24
fouls while the Pacers were called for 20.
USC Aiken will travel to Laurinburg, N.C. on Tuesday, September 6 to face St.
Andrews at 4:00 PM.
