USCA BATTLES CRUSADERS TO SCORELESS TIE
PACERS GET 110 MINUTES OF SHUTOUT IN NET FROM HAROLD TATE

MORROW, Ga.--Twenty extra minutes of soccer could not settle the score between the USC Aiken Pacers (0-1-1) and the Belmont Abbey Crusaders (0-1-1) in non-conference men’s soccer action on Saturday night at the Clayton State Tournament. The two teams battled to a 0-0 tie. In a match that featured 44 total fouls, eight cards, and two ejections, both goalkeepers posted double overtime shutouts.

Shots on goal were balanced in the first half with the Crusaders holding a slim 5-4 edge. In the second frame, however, BAC out shot the Pacers 11-3. Pacer keeper Harold Tate turned them all away recording eight saves, not allowing a goal in 110 minutes. Sean O’Conner also registered a shutout in net stopping three shots.

The Pacers played the final 15 minutes of regulation and all of the first overtime a man up as Will Fuqua was issued a red card and ejected in the 75th minute. Play evened up at 10 per side with less than four minutes to play in the double overtime period after USCA’s Svetlin Penchev was red carded and ejected.

Emmanuel Maduka’s four shots led the Pacers while Kyle Fenner and Nick Wyatt each fired five shots for Belmont Abbey.

USC Aiken is now 2-0-1 all-time versus the Crusaders. Saturday evening marked just the third 0-0 tie in the program’s 15-year NCAA history.

The Pacers will host Anderson College on Thursday, September 1 at 7:00 PM in their home opener.
