AIKEN, S.C.--As the rain poured into the “Pacer Pit” Wednesday evening, a hard-fought battle ended in a scoreless tie. USC Aiken Pacers (1-7-2) and Pfeiffer University Falcons (5-5-1) met for the fifth time to make the overall series 2-2-1. The aggressive match featured 34 total fouls and five cards between the two teams.

Both teams posted impressive offense firing 19 shots each with seven shots on goal for Pfeiffer and nine to USCA. Emmanuel Maduka (9) and Wacey Benjamin (21) led the Pacers with six shots each and two and three on goal, respectively. The duo contributed to more than half of the Pacer shots during the 110 minutes of play, while five other Pacers also took shots.

Joseph Cawley was yellow carded at 26:19 and fellow Pacer Jonathan Boyles also received a caution with eight seconds remaining in the first half.

Cihan Nuhoglu led the Falcons with five shots, although none were on goal. Goalkeeper David Sheridan made nine stops for Pfeiffer while Marcos Rodriguez blocked seven inside the net for USCA.

Beginning in the first overtime period, players showed frustration as Benjamin, Zakaria Tamijani and Matt Zilloux all received yellow cards. The two teams were close in shots with the Falcons having a 3-2 edge over USCA at the end of the first 10-minute period.

Pacers battled back in the second overtime not allowing any shots by the Falcon offense and producing three shots on goal towards Sheridan. With less than one minute remaining, Benjamin drove the ball into the net to clinch a Pacer win, with a direct shot from seven yards out just as Sheridan kicked a leg out to stop the goal.

The overtime game marked just the fourth 0-0 tie in the USC Aiken programs 15-year NCAA history.

The Pacers will take on the Patriots of Francis Marion in a Peach Belt Conference match up on Wednesday, October 17, at 7 p.m.
