AIKEN, S.C.--After a quick start, the Bearcats of Brescia University (11-2-0) tallied three second half goals to snuff out a Pacer comeback and hand USC Aiken (5-7-2) a 5-1 loss in men’s non-conference soccer action on Thursday afternoon at “Pacer Pit”. It was the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

Mathew Harrison scored the game’s first goal in the third minute of play when he pounded home John Benson’s direct kick that had been deflected in front of the net. Durande Engineer made it 2-0 in the 25th minute as the Bearcats scored off Benson’s corner kick.

After holding Brescia in check the rest of the first half, USC Aiken showed a spark early in the second frame. Mamadou Ndoye converted a penalty kick in the 52nd minute to slice the margin in half at 2-1. It was the sixth goal of the season for the senior from Dakar, Senegal and it ended a Pacer scoreless streak of nearly 346 minutes.

Three goals in a seven-minute span, however, sealed the win for the Bearcats. Paul O’Toole made it 3-1 in the 69th minute scoring off a corner kick while Graeme Japp and Fritz Seilbe tacked on insurance markers to set the final margin at 5-1.

Harold Tate recorded five saves allowing four goals in nearly 70 minutes of action in net for USCA. Marcos Rodriguez gave up one goal and made one save in 20 minutes of relief.

Andrew Barclay stopped one shot and let up the lone Pacer goal in net for Brescia. As a team, Brescia out shot the Pacers 21-6 including 11-1 in the first half and held a commanding 9-1 advantage on corner kicks.

USC Aiken will travel to Florence, S.C. on Saturday, October 16 to face off with Peach Belt Conference rival Francis Marion at 4:00 PM.
