SPARTANBURG, SC--USC Aiken lost to fourth
ranked USC Spartanburg, 5-1, on Saturday in a match-up of Peach Belt
Conference men’s soccer teams in Spartanburg, S.C. The Rifles remain
unbeaten, improving to 9-0-0 overall and 3-0-0 in the PBC. The Pacers
drop to 0-6-0 on the season and 0-3-0 in conference action.
Preben Ringerike’s goal at the 36:03 mark of the first period gave USC
Spartanburg a 2-0 advantage and proved to be the game winner. The Rifles added
two more goals before the Pacers could get on the board, including Liam Slick’s
second of the night.
Mamadou Ndoye’s (Dakar, Senegal) penalty kick at the 76:05 mark cut the
USCS lead to 4-1. The goal was Ndoye’s first of the season and only the
third score for the Pacer team in 2003.
Josh Richardson set the final score at 5-1 with a put back off David Stovall’s
deflected shot. Richardson finished with four shots, three shots on goal, one
goal and one assists. Slack recorded four shots, two shots on goal and two goals.
USC Spartanburg held a 22-5 shot advantage in the match.
Peter Calabrese (Spring Hill, Fla.) played the entire game in net for USC Aiken.
The senior allowed five goals but saved eight. Janiel Simon allowed one goal
and made two saves for the Rifles.
The Pacers will look to notch their first win of the season when they host Morehouse
College on Wednesday. The match is set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
