AIKEN, S.C.--Josh Geyer scored a game-high
21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Navy team to a come from
behind victory over the Cardinal team in USC Aiken’s 2004 Men’s
Basketball Cardinal/Navy Game held tonight at “The Courthouse” on
the USCA campus. Navy trailed by three points at the half but outscored
the Cardinal 46-39 in the second 20 minutes of play.
Curt Triplin led Cardinal with 19 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Richard
Blocker with 16 points, Kenny Burr with 13, Anthony Sampson 12 and Theo
Oates with 10 points each scored in double figures for the Cardinal squad.
In addition to Geyer’s 21 points, Marcus Robinson added 16, Arnold
Coates scored 15 and Franchot Brown added 10 for the Navy team.
Trent Boyd led the attack for Navy from the point guard position. The junior
finished with seven points, five rebounds and a game-high nine assists.
Navy connected on 56.3 percent of its shots in the second half and 50.8
percent (33-for-65) for the game. The guys in blue also won the rebounding
battle 42-40. Cardinal shot 37.2 percent in the second half after hitting
on 53.6 percent in the first stanza. For the game the group in red made
31-of-71 for 43.7 percent.
Both squads struggled from the charity stripe. Navy hit on eight-of-17
for 47.1 percent while their opponents made seven-of-13 for 53.8 percent.
Navy dished out 18 assists and committed 13 turnovers. Cardinal had 14
assists and nine turnovers.
The Pacers final tune-up prior to the start of the 2004-05 season will
be Nov. 13 when they travel to Elon, N.C., to face Elon University. USC
Aiken will open its season on Nov. 18 when Livingstone College visits “The
Courthouse.” Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
