Here For The 2004-05 Men's Basketball Schedule
AIKEN, S.C.--USC Aiken Head Men’s
Basketball Coach Mike Roberts released the Pacers’ 2004-05 schedule
today. In addition to facing off with NCAA Division I Georgia State University,
USCA will play seven games against six teams that advanced to the 2004
NCAA Division II Tournament. Those seven teams combined for a 156-64
record and a .709 winning percentage in 2003-04.
Roberts, a 1977 graduate of Elon University, will coach against his alma
mater when the Pacers travel to Elon, N.C., on Nov. 13 for an exhibition
game against the Phoenix (12-18). USC Aiken officially starts the season
when Livingstone College (3-24) visits “The Courthouse” on
Nov. 18.
Carver Bible College and Carson-Newman College (18-10) will be USCA’s
opponents in the Conoco Phillips Classic, on Nov. 20-21, in Aiken. The
Pacers will hit the road for the first time on Nov. 26-27 when they participate
in the South Atlantic/Peach Belt Clash in Clinton, S.C. USC Aiken will “clash” with
Presbyterian College (16-12) and Newberry College (16-13).
December opens with a home game against Catawba College on the first day
of the month. The Indians went 12-19 in 2003-04, but shocked the South
Atlantic Conference by winning the league tournament and advancing to the
NCAA Division II Tournament.
Road games against North Greenville College (6-18) on Dec. 4, and Carson-Newman
on Dec. 15, will precede the 2004 AASU/Chatham Orthopaedics Basketball
Classic in Savannah, Ga., hosted by Armstrong Atlantic State University
(AASU). The Pacers will square off with Savannah College of Art & Design
(14-12) on Dec. 17, and Lenoir-Rhyne College (19-9) on Dec. 18. LRC won
the South Atlantic Conference regular season title a year ago and will
be USCA’s second opponent that advanced to post season play last
year.
The non-conference schedule ends on Dec. 31 with a trip to Atlanta to play
NCAA Division I Georgia State University. The Panthers return two starters
and seven letterwinners from last year’s 20-9 team.
Peach Belt Conference play begins for the Pacers on Jan. 5, when USC
Upstate (formerly USC Spartanburg) pays a visit to “The Courthouse”.
The Spartans posted a 13-15 mark last season. Three days later, Jan.
8, USC Aiken will host the defending NCAA Division II National Champions,
Kennesaw State University (35-4).
Two of the next three opponents are coming off NCAA Tournament seasons.
After a road game with UNC Pembroke (3-25) on Jan. 12, the Pacers travel
to Columbus State (22-9) and Francis Marion University (27-4) on Jan.
15 and 19.
USC Aiken closes out January with home games against Georgia College & State
University (7-22) and UNC Pembroke and a visit to Clayton State.
February opens with back-to-back home games against tournament teams,
Francis Marion on Feb. 2, and a homecoming game with AASU (21-10) on
Feb. 5. The Pacers first game with rival Augusta State University (11-17)
will be on Feb. 9 in Augusta, Ga. A home game with Lander University
(7-21) and games at USC Upstate and North Florida (12-16) will be followed
by Augusta State’s visit to Aiken on Feb. 23.
The regular season ends on Feb. 26 when USCA travels to play Lander.
The Peach Belt Tournament begins on March 2 and runs through March 6.
Only two players, Curt Triplin and Trent Boyd, return from last season’s
11-18 (4-12 PBC) squad. Roberts will welcome 10 new players to the program,
nine of which are 6-foot-2 or taller.
