Aiken’s men’s basketball team added Trent Boyd to its 2003-04
roster, USCA Head Coach Mike Roberts announced on Monday. Boyd, a five-foot-nine
guard from Rock Hill, S.C., played his freshman season at Lander University
in Greenwood, S.C. He averaged 1.8 points in 17 games for the Senators.
Boyd finished the 2002-03 season having started two games for Lander. He connected
on 24.3 percent (nine-for-37) of his shots from the field, 23.8 percent (five-of-21)
from behind the three-point line and 80 percent (eight-of-10) from the charity
stripe. He totaled 14 rebounds, 12 steals, 20 assists and 17 turnovers while
averaging 11.4 minutes per game.
As a senior at Northwestern High School in Rock Hill, Boyd averaged 14 points,
three rebounds, eight assists and five steals per game. He earned all-region
and all-conference honors in 2001.
Boyd averaged nine points, two rebounds, nine assists and seven steals for the
Trojans as a junior. His highest scoring season came as a sophomore when he knocked
down 25 points per contest along with three assists and three steals.
The sophomore will pursue a degree in history at USC Aiken.
The Pacers finished the 2002-03 season with a 5-23 mark and a 4-15 Peach Belt
Conference record. The 2003-04 season begins for USC Aiken on November 22, with
a trip to Jefferson City, Tenn., to take on Carson-Newman College.
