Rivalry Week

The first two days of this week feature USC Aiken tangling with rival Augusta State in softball, baseball and tennis.

The USC Aiken softball team opens the Pacers’ week against Augusta State by playing a softball twinbill with the 10th-ranked Jaguars in Augusta, Ga. on Monday, March 22. The first game is scheduled to get underway at 2 p.m.

On Tuesday, March 23, the USC Aiken men’s and women’s tennis teams will welcome Augusta State to the USC Aiken tennis complex. The match is scheduled to get underway at 2:30 p.m. The 17th-ranked Pacer men will be squaring off against the 23rd-ranked Augusta State men, while the USC Aiken women will be facing off against the 29th-ranked Augusta State women.

The 10th-ranked USC Aiken baseball team begins the upcoming week by traveling to Augusta, Ga. to face off against rival Augusta State at Lake Olmstead Stadium on Tuesday, March 23 in the second game of the 2010 Outback Cup. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

USC Aiken claimed the first game of the 2010 Outback Cup with a 9-3 victory over the Jaguars at the ‘Bert on March 3. This is the second year of the Outback Cup with USC Aiken claiming the inaugural Outback Cup in 2009 with two victories over Augusta State.

Golf

The 20th-ranked USC Aiken golf team will participate in the 54-hole, two-day Bobcat Invitational in Eatonton, Ga. on Monday, March 22 and Tuesday, March 23.

The Pacers’ third event of the 2010 spring will be played at the Cuscowilla on Lake Oconee golf course.

There are 17 of the best golf teams in all of NCAA Division II golf participating in the event as 12 of the teams are listed in the top 30 in the latest GolfStat Division II Head-to-Head Rankings. The tournament features three of the top five teams on the list, and seven of the top 10.

Softball

The USC Aiken softball team has two more conference road doubleheaders in addition to facing off against rival Augusta State on Monday.

USC Aiken enters the upcoming week coming off a doubleheader split with Georgia Southwestern in Americus, Ga on Saturday, March 20.

The twinbill split with Georgia Southwestern currently leaves the Pacers with a record of 13-14 on the 2010 season. USC Aiken is 5-7 in the Peach Belt Conference.

The Pacers will travel to Milledgeville, Ga. two days after squaring off with the Jaguars to take on the Georgia College & State Bobcats on Wednesday, March 24. First pitch in game one is slated for 4 p.m. The second game will begin immediately following the first game at approximately 6 p.m.

USC Aiken’s week will close with a road doubleheader at Columbus State in Columbus, Ga. The doubleheader is set to commence at 2 p.m. The second game will get underway immediately following the first contest at around 4 p.m.

Tennis

The USC Aiken women’s tennis team enters the upcoming week having won four of its last five matches, including a 6-3 win over Peach Belt Conference rival North Georgia on Saturday, March 20 in Dahlonega, Ga. The current stretch leaves the Pacers with an overall record of 6-6. The Pacers are 2-4 in the PBC.

The 17th-ranked USC Aiken men’s tennis team has won two of its last three to own a record of 7-5 on the 2010 season. USC Aiken is presently 1-3 in the extremely tough PBC.

Just one day after playing rival Augusta State, the USC Aiken men and women will welcome Peach Belt Conference rival Lander to the USC Aiken Tennis Complex for a 2:30 p.m. match.

On Friday, March 26, USC Aiken’s men will play host to NCAA Division III power Emory at 2 p.m. before the USC Aiken men and women close out the week with two home conference matches at the USC Aiken Tennis Complex. The Pacers will first play host to Columbus State on Saturday, March 27 before closing the week by hosting Georgia Southwestern at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 28.

Baseball

USC Aiken’s baseball team will close out its week after taking on the Jaguars in the Outback Cup with a three-game Peach Belt Conference series at Roberto Hernandez Stadium against Georgia College & State.

USC Aiken’s overall series victory over UNC Pembroke last weekend leaves the Pacers in sole possession of first place not only in the Peach Belt Conference East, but in all of the PBC through the first four conference series of the 2010 season. USC Aiken is the only PBC team with 10 league wins presently. The Pacers are currently 10-2 in PBC action on the year.

The Pacers are now 20-8 overall on the 2010 season. USC Aiken, which has now won five straight three-game series dating back to Feb. 20, has also now claimed victory in 17 of its last 19 outings.

The USC Aiken-Georgia College & State series will begin with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 27 at 3 p.m. The series will conclude with a single 1p.m. game on Sunday, March 28.
