PACER PATH: HOME OF LADY PACERS CROSS COUNTRY

The USC Aiken Women’s Cross Country program has been an integral part of the USC Aiken athletic landscape since 1989. In 2007, the Lady Pacers had their highest finish ever in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament and their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament. In 2008, the Lady Pacers made it to the NCAA Tournament again and two members were named to the 2008 Peach Belt Conference Women’s Cross Country All-Academic Team, which recognizes outstanding accomplishments of student-athletes, both in the classroom and on the field. The 2008 team was also selected by the National Cross Country Coaches Association as an NCAA Division II All-Academic Team.

Helmed by fourth-year head coach Larry Milner, the USC Aiken Women’s Cross Country team is entering a new era in its progression as a program and due to this a facility to call their own is long past due. This is why Pacer Path was developed. Pacer Path is a four-mile-long, 15-feet-wide grass and earth multipurpose fitness trail, which has been built on property adjacent to the Convocation Center. As USC Aiken’s athletics facilities have garnered much attention throughout the conference and NCAA Division II, Pacer Path is another excellent addition to the USC Aiken athletics programs. Pacer Path has been built to NCAA standards and it is the only course at a Peach Belt Conference School.

Pacer Path will be officially unveiled to the public at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16. The special ceremony will feature a high school race in which many local teams will be participating. The first Pacer home cross country event at Pacer Path will be at 10 a.m. on Oct. 17 with the inaugural Pacer Relays.
