USC Aiken Fall Athletic Teams Set to Open Preseason
AIKEN, S.C. – The 2009-10 athletic year at USC Aiken is officially underway as of Sunday, Aug. 9 with volleyball, men’s and women’s soccer and cross country reporting for preseason.
All of USC Aiken’s fall athletic teams will begin practicing
for their upcoming regular seasons on Monday, Aug. 10.
The fall athletic teams at USC Aiken reported to campus on Sunday
to get situated and get everything settled before beginning their
rigorous preseason practice schedules on Monday. The fall athletic
teams were to hold a joint dinner and student-athlete orientation
led by USC Aiken athletic director Randy Warrick on Sunday evening
on the USC Aiken campus.
All four of the varsity athletic programs about to enter their
season at USC Aiken will have just under three weeks of practice
before entering their regular season openers on Friday, Aug 28 and
Saturday, Aug. 29 on the road. All will have scrimmages with
outside competition during the three-week preseason stretch as
well.
The USC Aiken volleyball team will be the first to kick off the
2009-10 USC Aiken athletic regular season on Friday, Aug. 28 at the
West Georgia Invitational in Carrollton, Ga. The Pacers will play
four games during the tournament, beginning with two games on
Friday. Tournament action for USC Aiken on Friday begins with an
11:30 a.m. contest against Albany State. The Pacers will close out
play on Aug. 28 with a contest against Barton at 2:30
p.m.
USC Aiken volleyball will finish its first tournament of the 2009
season by taking on second-year head coach Glenn Cox’s alma
mater Valdosta State (10 a.m.) and Sunshine State Conference power
Rollins (12:30 p.m.) on Saturday, Aug. 29.
The USC Aiken women’s cross country program under the
tutelage of fourth-year head coach Larry Milner will begin their
2009 schedule by running in the Erskine Invitational on Aug. 29.
The meet is scheduled to commence at 10 a.m.
The USC Aiken women’s soccer program begins their fifth
season under Sue Vodicka with a contest against the South Atlantic
Conference’s Newberry at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug.
29.
The first full day of regular season action for Pacer athletics in
the 2009-10 athletic year ends with 13th-year head coach Ike Ofoje
leading the Pacer men’s soccer program into their regular
season opener against Mount Olive. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. in
Mount Olive, N.C.
