AIKEN
S.C.--Former USC Aiken golfer Ryan Dillon fired four straight rounds
of 67 or better to post a four-shot victory over the 115-player field
at the Tonto Verde Golf Course (Arizona), a stop on the Grey Goose/Gateway
Professional Tour. Dillon, a 1997 NCAA Division II All-American, carded
a final round of six-under-par 65 yesterday evening to win the $19,000
top prize.
The Orlando, Fla. native leaped from ninth to second on the money list with $53,173.33
in 11 tournaments this year on the tour. Only Brian Kontak’s $78,646.67
is better than Dillon’s performance thus far. In addition to his work on
the Grey Goose/Gateway Tour, Dillon has earned over $8,000 at the Chrysler Classic
of Tuscon (PGA Tour event) and the Scholarship America Showdown (Nationwide Tour).
After opening with rounds of 66, 67, and 66, Dillon carded a final round 65 to
finish at 20-under-par, four strokes ahead of Kontak who shot a one-under-par
70 on Thursday.
One week ago, Dillon just missed another victory at the McCormick Ranch Golf
Course, finishing tied for second and taking home a check for $9,000. Only once
in 11 tournaments has Dillon finished outside the top 20.
