AIKEN, SC--The Golf Channel’s segment
on the USC Aiken golf team will air this Wednesday, September 24 at 7:00
PM EST. Steve Burkowski, producer and on-air talent for the Golf Channel’s “College
Central” show, recently visited the USCA campus to film the spotlight
segment. The Golf Channel reaches 58 million households. It is channel
38 on G Force (formerly Northland Cable) in the Aiken area.
The purpose of “College Central” is to give Division I golf, and
the top of Division II, a show on national television. Burkowski, along with
cameraman Paul Boron, came to Aiken on September 4 and spent nearly five hours
filming the segment.
“We want to give college golf the exposure of other college athletics,” said
Burkowski.
Viewers will see a guided tour of campus by senior Bryan Sangid as well as some
footage of the Pacers’ home golf course, the historic Palmetto Golf Club.
“This is good for the university,” said USCA head coach Michael Carlisle. “This
gives us some credibility. With all the good programs around, this shows the
general public just what kind of program we have. This will step up the program
and will let everyone else know that our program is just as good as many others
in the area.”
Carlisle, in his 14th season as head coach of the Pacers, is a five-time Peach
Belt Conference Coach of the Year (1995-97, 2002, 2003) and a six-time NCAA District
III Coach of the Year (1995-99, 2002). USCA has captured five Peach Belt Conference
Championships (1995-97, 2002, 2003) and three times finished as the NCAA Runner-up
(1995, 1996, 1999).
