AIKEN, S.C.--USC Aiken’s women’s
cross country team placed 5th among 10 schools participating in Saturday’s
Citadel Invitational, hosted by The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. Marcie
Milner (Aiken, S.C.) finished fifth for USCA in a time of 20:08, breaking
her own school record of 20:31 set earlier this season.
Ashley Reedy (Jefferson, Md.) posted her best time of the season, 21:34,
and placed 20th. Senior Veronica Derico (Aiken, S.C.) also turned in a
season best time of 22:51, which was good enough for a 30th place finish.
“
The women ran really well today,” said USCA Interim Head Coach David
Lyle. “They are working hard in practice and the results are starting
to show.”
The meet included seven NCAA Division I teams. Had the scoring not been
separated between D-I and non-D-I, the Lady Pacers would have beaten three
Division I schools; Charleston Southern, Savannah State and South Carolina
State.
“
This meet was a good confidence booster for us,” added Lyle.
Freshman Meaghan Arthur (Graniteville, S.C.), running in only her second
race, shaved more than a minute off of her time, finishing 39th in a time
of 23:24. Beata Szabo (Budapest, Hungary) also turned in a top-50 performance,
placing 49th in 24:26.
The Lady Pacers will finish their regular season schedule on Oct. 14, when
they participate in the Erskine College Invitational in Due West, S.C.
