AIKEN, S.C.--USC Aiken’s women’s cross country team placed 11th out of 20 schools participating in Saturday’s Eye Opener Invitational, hosted by Converse College in Spartanburg, S.C. Newcomer Marcie Milner (Aiken, S.C.) led the way for the Lady Pacers with a USCA record-breaking time of 20:31.

Milner finished 10th among 170 runners and broke teammate Ashley Reedy’s (Jefferson, Md.) school record of 20:45 set at last season’s Peach Belt Conference Championships. Reedy placed 33rd today in a time of 21:37.

The meet marked the first as head coach for David Lyle, who took over the program’s reigns in August.
Jen Mascarin (Komoka, Ontario) finished 52nd (22:30) and Veronica Derico (Aiken, S.C.) crossed the line in the 92nd spot. Beata Szabo (Budapest, Hungary) and Nicole Bennett (Augusta, Ga.) placed 116th and 124th respectively.

Ashley Northington (Aiken, S.C.) and Mary Startsman (Winnsboro, S.C.) closed things out for USC Aiken, placing 134th and 144th.

The Lady Pacers will be in action again next Saturday when they travel to Greenwood, S.C., to take part in the 14th Annual Connie Maxwell Invitational. The meet will begin at 9:00 a.m. USCA will be running on the same course that will be used for the Peach Belt Conference Championships on Oct. 23.
