USC AIKEN APPOINTS NEW CROSS COUNTRY COACH
DAVID LYLE TO SERVE AS INTERIM COACH FOR 2004 SEASON

AIKEN, S.C.--USC Aiken has named David Lyle as Head Cross Country Coach, Director of Athletics Randy Warrick recently announced. Lyle, a former collegiate runner at Marshall University and a former graduate assistant coach at Middle Tennessee State University, will serve as interim coach for the 2004 season. He replaces Dana Richter, who resigned earlier this month.

“USC Aiken is very fortunate to have Coach David Lyle step in on such short notice to coach our women’s cross country team,” said Warrick. “As a former collegiate cross country runner and coach, he has the experience and knowledge to assist our runners to strive to do their very best. I look for the team to get better and better throughout the season.”

Lyle was a member of Marshall’s track and field, and cross country teams for four years. In 1997, the Thundering Herd captured the Southern Conference Indoor Track Championship. Following his senior season, the Poca, W.Va., native was selected to the Mid American All-Conference Team. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Merchandising in 2000.

“I am excited to work with USCA women's cross country team this year,” Lyle said. “We are excited to contribute to the ongoing success of Pacer athletics in a strive for regional and national recognition.”

As a graduate assistant coach at Middle Tennessee, from 2000 to 2003, Lyle guided the Blue Raiders’ men’s and women's track team to three Sun Belt Conference championships. A MTSU men’s cross country runner claimed the conference title in 2000 and 2001.

Lyle began his duties on Aug. 16, and has worked with the team for more than a week.

“The women have desire to be successful and have shown potential to accomplish their goals of being competitive in the conference,” the coach said of his new squad. “The team is finding motivation in working together and seeing individual goals achieved, which in turn gives us endless opportunities for improvement.”

In May 2003 Lyle received his Master’s in Business Administration from Middle Tennessee State University. Lyle is the husband of Lisa Lyle, USC Aiken’s Director of University Housing and Judicial Affairs, and has been employed at Concept H.R., a human resources consulting firm in Aiken, since February.
