AIKEN, SC--USC Aiken will host the 10th Peach Belt Conference Golf Tournament on April 20-21 at the 7,141-yard, par-72 Wisteria Course at the Woodside Plantation Country Club in Aiken, SC.  Eight schools will be competing for the 2001 PBC Tournament title.

Among the eight-team field are two Top 25 teams according to the latest MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings issued April 12th.  Francis Marion University enters the tournament ranked ninth in Division II while Georgia College and State University is tied for 18th.  Other teams include Armstrong Atlantic State University, Clayton College and State University, Columbus State University, Kennesaw State University, UNC Pembroke, and the host USC Aiken Pacers.

AASU will be participating in their first ever PBC Tournament, as this is the first season for the Pirate Golf Program.  GC&SU is the defending PBC champion as the Bobcats captured the 2000 PBC crown with a 48-over-par 608 on their home course in Eatonton, GA.  The Bobcats outdistanced Francis Marion by 13 strokes and USCA by 16 shots.

Columbus State holds the most tournament titles with four (1992-94, 98) followed by USCA with three (1995-97), Francis Marion with one (1999), and GC&SU with one (2000).  The host school has won the last three PBC Tournaments.  USCA hosted the event one previous time, in 1993, at Woodside Plantation where the Pacers lost in a playoff to Columbus State after both teams finished with identical scores of 611.

The format for the 36-hole tournament will consist of round one being played on Friday, April 20 with the final round set for Saturday, April 21.  Both rounds will use formatted tee times beginning at 1:00 PM each day.
